XL1 Audio Distortion

Hi, I own a xl1 and use adobe premiere to edit. I show my "movies" at a local theatre in Athens Ga.

Since I started usung the XL1 (I had a vx1000) and the audio is pushed through a big sound system, I've noticed that metalic flutter sound. I

The cannon is set to record at 48khz then I output the movie at 32khz. I've also noticed sync problems when the movies are longer.

Sould I:
a)Export the movies at 48khz instead of 32
or
b)Record the cannon audio at 32khz? If so, how do I do that on the camera?

Also the longer movies get out of sync, this never happened with the vx1000.

Thanks,
Waco

For best quality, stay with 48kHz sound. Use 32 kHz only if youhave to do 4-channel sound. You can change the sound options from the menu.

I'm not sure, but I do not think the canon has the audio drift at 32k, only at 48k.

In FCP, only once have I had the drift problem, which really confuses me. I changed the audio speed after making a calculation (off by how many frames over so many minutes). Wasn't 100% scientific, but worked.

Sync problem probably happeng in post.

The sync problem is probably happening in the NLE. One solution is to capture your cuts in smaller segments.

You will need to learn more about how your NLE handles audio. I am not that familar with Premiere. In Cinestream, the recommendation is to keep audio segregated in their own tracks. This keeps 48kHz in one track, and 32kHz in another. This prevents the NLE from having to resample the audio.

I think I would still render my audio at 48kHz. Try a short segment and see how it turns out.
