The Panasonic TM-7002S isn't a remote lens controller; it's an LCD monitor. It doesn't have anything to do with remotely controlling a camcorder lens.

The Canon ZR-1000 is an excellent remote lens controller for the XL1 / XL1S and it should cost less than $200 from any of our DV Info Net Sponsors. Hope this helps,

I was chacking for used remotes on eBay and found this Tripod w/ remote included

I was thinking if it is a worthless tripod - could the remote be tacken off and used w/ a better tripod

Wow Dan, that has to be a great price for a Lanc control on it's own.
I wouldn't want to sit my XL1S on top of the tripod, it looks a little underpowered for that, but the Lanc control looks pretty sweet doesn't it ?

I'm buying the tripod/remote you have a link posted to. I'm buying it for the remote and plan to remove it and use it on a crane I recently built. I'll let you know how it works when it arrives.

The remote controls onthe handles from the Sony tripods do work, if a bit limited in the scope of options on them. The tripods themselves are too light for serious work, and using the handle with another tripod is sort of a kludge.

The remote control at www.dvcontrol.com provides some interesting capabilities in a small, moderate priced package.

I have on the table in fromt of me a RM-BARE controller that I am in the all too slow process of reviewing for Chris.

The information on the dvcontrol.com website appears to be accurate. It is small, about 1/2 the size of a minidv case (i.e., roughly 0.5"x1.5"x2") with a 4' cord. Do-it-yourself velcor appears to be a reasonable way to attach it to something. I've mainly used it for photo-to-video transfer of stills with the camcorder mounted on a copy stand.

I see there are a couple new products listed on the web site that might be interesting!
