Bad pixel now gone?!?!
 

Hi folks

I had one bad pixel (one white dot) near the lower right on my XL1. Now it's no longer there. Was I seeing things before?

It is possible that it was a speck of dust.

Gain setting, shutter speed, and camcorder CCD temperature can have an effect on whether or not a hot pixel is visible.

The bad pixel was seen in Adobe Premiere 6.5 and was there all last year during weddings, sports, etc. I don't touch the gain nor the shutter speed. I mostly ride the aperture. Now I am not able to reproduce it. Now in Adobe Premiere, it's no longer there as well.

Nothing has really changed in the way I have been shooting.

In a sense it's good news for me ...

Has the camcorder been back to Canon for maintenance?

No the camera has not been back to Canon for maintenance.

The only thing that has happened to the camera was the viewfinder breaking off at the point where it swivels back in October. I fixed it my self using "Crazy Glue".

Yesterday, I tried filming in various modes/settings and am still not able to see the "bad" pixel.

The only thing I can think of is a speck that has landed on the CCD itself (is this possible?) and now has somehow dislodged itself.

It may have been a speck of dust on the rear element of the lens, or at the CCD block aperture at the front of the camera head. Most likely it was not on any of the CCD's themselves as their faces are mounted directly to the CCD block prism.

I thought I had a bad pixel on my XL1 one time, but it turned out to be a tiny bit of dust on the rear element of the lens.
