Signal from CCD chips

Hey everyone..

Is there a way to pull a video signal directly
off the CCD chips in the Canon XL1(s)? If
so, wouldn't it be better to capture this with
a very good capture card at 4:4:4 at 100
mbps or something then to use DV at only
35 mbps? When looking at the specs of
the camera it doesn't appear to have such
a solution.... but then again, you do get
an video out with the MX200 XLR/shoulder
adapter, right? Oke... lemme know what
you guys think on this!

Howdy from Texas,

<< you do get an video out with the MX200 XLR/shoulder adapter >>

It's just the regular composite video from the analog video jacks on back of the XL1... a patch cable takes it from the camera to the MA200. The only advantage to it is the BNC connector on the back of the MA200. Other than that, it's really no big deal.

No way to pull the signal directly off the CCD. DV is 25 Mbps.

Potentially better than the composite output is the S-VIDEO output. The S-VIDEO output is ahead of the DV CODEC but after the A/D converters and DSP.

Anyone pull a YUV out of an XL1?

Ashley Guy November 2nd, 2001 11:51 PM

You could pull YUV out of the XL1 by tapping into the viewfinder display. There is an article on Chris's site that shows the pinout diagram with a YUV signal going to the view finder.

Ashley,

Thanks for your review! I do not seem to be
able to find the article you are referring too?!
Are you sure it is up on the site? Chris, do you
know if this article is still up?

Thanks for all the response!
