"Off the Shelf" Configurations for effective low light shooting with the XL1S

I have been trying to use the XL1s for low light shooting in several dynamic "event" environments (wedding ceremonies, wedding receptions, graduation ceremonies, indoor celeb interviews with no artificial light, etc.) and could use some advice.

I know that many of you are able to walk into a low light setting and churn magic from the XL1 and I could use a few words on the matter.

FYI...I just ordered the 3x wide angle and the 1.6x adapter, so my aresenal of stock (non EOS) Canon lenses and adapters is complete for the moment.

Any tips would be helpful...

Mark, try shooting in A (auto) mode and adjust the gain control on the lower left side of the camera to suit. Experiment with the +6db, +12db and +18db gain settings. Also try Tv (shutter priority) mode and bring the shutter speed down to the digital slow shutter effect settings of 1/30 and 1/15. Hope this helps,

I'll agree with Chris

Out of the 2 options that Chris mentions, we are having the best results with the above.

Once a shot is set up and framed is it possible to fiddle with the camera settings and accurately see on the LCD what the actual footage will look like in terms of depth of field and lighting/contrast etc (ie keep adjusting the settings untill the desired effect is seen on the screen and then shoot)?
