The 16x is a great lens! If you add an adapter to another lens, you still will not be able to open up the iris! You will still be stuck with the iris limit of the auto lens.

Not that I agree with them, but many buy the body only kit and get the 16x manual for their primary lens. I still think it is good to have both.

hmm, well I think i'll try and keep my eye open for a x16 manual lens then.
Although it seems they are few and far between here in the UK.

There is also the x14, do you know if there is a lot of difference?

The 14x's were good too, but I don't recall what mine would open up to. The 16x is better I think, plus you can use the zoom as manual or servo. There is a 16x on ebay right now with two days to go. It has one bid at $600.00, and looks really sharp. Both the 3x and the 16x sell for about the same used.
