Depth of field in Video
 

What is the main difference between the DOF in video vs film? Is it only the lens? If I was using a mini 35 with an appropriate lens, would that give the xl1s the flexibility of a good 35 film camera?

To answer the second part of your question, this is one of the major advantages of the mini35 adapter. It preserves the shallow DoF ability of those wonderful cinematic lenses.

Regarding the first part of your answer, we have a couple of Depth of Field discussions going on already. I'll try to post the direct links, but you could do a search on the term "depth of field" and probably pull up the ones I'm thinking about. Hope this helps,

IS this kind of adapter available for use on most digital video cameras, or just the XL1S??

I believe the mini-35 adapter is also available for pd-150. But don't think you'll get a film look from it. The only thing you'll get is the depth of field of 35mm film. And for such a high price I would go for a standard manual lens....
