Sony WCS-999 or Azden WMS-PRO and connecting to XL1

Hi folks

I'm looking a getting an entry-level wireless microphone system and am deciding between the Sony WCS-999 or the Azden WMS-Pro systems for my XL1. I also have the MA100 attached to the XL1. I've been using a wired XLR handheld mic for a while now and am looking at getting into the wireless world. Which (Sony or Azden) would you recommend?

Also, I want to still keep my on-camera microphone to capture the ambient sound while the wireless receiver is connected to the XLR. Since both the Sony and Azden only has 1/8" input connection, is it as easy as getting a 1/8" to XLR adapter or will I need to do some gymnastics?

Thanks

No to WCS-999

That 900 MHz wireless is pure junk. Unless they have fixed it, it isn't worth the $150 they sell it for.

I strongly suggest springing for the $499 Sennheiser Evolution 100 Kit with body pack transmitter w/ mini-lav mic, body pack or camera mount receiver, and plug on handheld transmitter. As an owner of several low end wireless systems including the Sony 999 and Azden, I can assure you that they do not have the necessary quality to use in true broadcast situations.

I agree with Ron about the Sennheiser. It is excellent for the money.

However, if you are trying to save money, go to a musician's supply store and try out the gear there. You can find some VHF systems for around $150. While they are not as good as the Sennheiser, they may be good enough for you provided you are willing to live with their limitations

Dear Nwooxl-1.

I forgot to mention 2 quick things.

The Sennheiser 100 system comes standard with a 1/8 to xlr cable.

If you are still in the market for a lower end system, I will be glad to sell any of my several unused Sony WMS 999 systems, Azdens, AudioTechnica Pro 88, or even my cheaper Hisonic 1000 VHF wireless sets at less than half their retail price. I too live in the Montreal area and you can contact me if interested...
