Came across this XLR adapter from zotz. Anyone have any experience with it?
 

Brian at Zotz stocks a thing called the XLRPRO made by Sign Video. It's an adapter like all the rest and I'm interested in ordering it as it's a good price but just wanted to run it by you guys to see if anyone's had one and if so, what's it like? I did notice that it only has the mounting screw for underneath and not the extra pin that locks into the base of the camera. Does anyone think this would be an issue worth worrying about?

As far as i know that is the exact same box that was put out by studio 1 productions.excellent quality. could be why studio 1 dropped that model in their product line?

I tried the XLR-PRO. Didn't like it at all. You can't hand hold the camera with it. Sign Video claims you can, but the XLR jacks end up being in the palm of your hand when hand holding. Also, had some other problems with it, like the screw thread part on the bottom of the unit become loose after some use causing some problems. It doesn't match up well to some audio mixers either. You end up with a ground loop problem. Unless you really tighten it down hard, it will turn under the camera. I guess they have to sell it cheap, because it really is.

I have both a Beachtek and a Studio 1 XLR-BP Pro (their new model of XLR adapters). I really prefer the XLR-BP Pro, as it is belt mounted removing the XLR cables and the XLR box from being under the camera. From what I am able to tell, the sound quality is a little better too.

I have been using the XLR-BP Pro for several months now and it has worked flawlessly. I rarely use my Beachtek any more. I have noise problems with it on some of my camera.

Thanks for that Charles. Too bad it comes a bit too late..I ordered it the other day and it's on it's way here across the ocean. I queried Brian at Zotz about the possibility of it swinging under the camera cause I noticed it doesn't have a locking pin and he assured me it would be ok, he's used one for a long time and sells a lot of these adapters. Will have to suck it and see I guess.
