Shoot the moon?

The standard 16x zoom does little in the way of getting a close up of the moon. Has anyone tried an EOS lens with the necessary adapter and the 1.6x zoom enhancer? What focal length did you use and what were the results like?

Search on EOS and you'll find a large body of discussion on this topic. For example:

Hi,

I have shot the moon with the EOS adaptor and a 75 -300mm lens. I can't remember if I was able to full frame the moon, I think I was a little short. I did not take any real notice of what I was doing as we were playing around.

If you want I can set up tonight and do a couple experiments for you.

Cheers
Andrew

Andrew,

That would be great, but don't go out of your way too much. I would love to see what a frame of the moon looks like with this type of setup. The last think I need to do is buy the EF adapter and then find out my 200mm Sigma lens won't get me close enough.

If you can do this and either post a frame somewhere or e-mail me one I would appreciate it. Like I said, if it is going to be a lot of work, don't worry about it.

Thanks for the offer. Oh and Ken, thanks for the link.

Greg,

I shot the moon using 75-300mm (via EOS) on XL1 a few months ago and it worked very well. I'll email you a copy (jpg) of a frame for your own judgement. This was my 1st attempt to shoot the moon but I was happy with the results.

(Hi Andrew - long time no see/hear..how are you?)
Regards
Danie

Hi,
I've used the 14X with the 1.6 extender, very happy with the results.

It doesn't fill frame by any means but itwas better than a naked 14x.

I believe the combo is equal to a 1000mm 35mm lens.
