Hellllpppp!!!

Alright, I fly out tommorrow to Arlington to begin shooting a corporate video and my XLS firewire port has gone ape-s#!t and does'nt want to work. Now does anyone know if I record on the XLs and take the tape out and use the consumer Canon Z0# palmcorders for capture. Will the tapes be playable. Shooting straight forward 4:3 with 96 khz 2 channel audio.

Shouldn't be a problem.

I shoot mostly Sony stuff, but the principle is that in play back you are just tranferring digital 1's and 0's. So shoulddn't be a problem. I have a cheap Sharp DV cam I've used for aeck for years.

The only caution I would give is this: If the heads on your XL1s are the least bit misaligned you might have problems with playback on another camera/deck. One of mine is like that (XL1s), even after sending it to Canon Service.

Eli,

Theoretically, yes, you can play any mini-dv tape shot on any camera back on any deck, (assuming they will play a mini-dv tape, and will play back in the speed you shot it at).

However. In practice, as others have noted, there can be a discrepancy between brands and tape head alignment tolerances. Best bet - try it out before you start the shoot.

Good luck.

You should be OK if the machines are in proper alignement. Just DO NOT use LP speed. Where does the 96K audio comr from? DV is 48 kHz (or 32 kHz optional).

Thanks Guys

Wen't and got a MiniDV palmcorder and ran a tape from my tape I shot in Tokyo with the same spec's and it captured with no problem. As for the 96khz, I was thinking the digital mixer I run the mic's through and run Aux send to the camera as a backup stereo audio track and forgot that it down coverts the audio to 48khz. But anyway's thanks guys!!!!!
