Is this a good price?

Hi there,

I'm about to buy myself a XL1S and this forum helped me a lot by making my final decision. I decided to start with the standard kit (meaning 16x auto lens) and later expand with the 3xLens.

I found the following website www.nomatica.com where they offer the kit for euro 3338 (and deliver in the Netherlands for only extra 25 euro), which I believe is a very reasonable price. However I'm also somewhat cautious with ordering online.

Could someone tell me if they know this retailer and if so how there experience with them was? I would greatly appreciate this.

Thanks
Oliver.P

I used the search function and it returned this thread that mentions nomatica. I remember other mentions but couldn't locate the thread.

Yeah, Dylan right. Remember the old(?) Internet proverb, "No one knows if you are a dog on the Internet."

I'm sorry ;o)

The site ein Germany I found is www.computeruniverse.net

Of course I'm not 100% shure on the reliability, but they are connected to all these service check organizations (for what it is worth) but I do know that they are pretty strict on that in Germany.

Oliver,

I'm the one that made the post that Jeff linked you too and I tried Nomatica and got nothing. They took my money, then said they were out of stock. Took a good while to reply to my emails, and every email that they sent was generic, as in the same every time, just perhaps one or two words different. But the meaning was always the same and they never gave me a date. Always - in one or two weeks, and this went on for ages, all while I was out of the money they took from me. They even quote the price in GBP (Pounds) but charged in EUROS so I lost out on exchange. I would keep away from NOMATICA with a 50m barge pole!!!

I'm not sure if your looking in Germany only, as u could give OPTEX a call and perhaps see how much they will charge you for shipment. Your in PAL land so can see no problem. But OPTEX seem to be always updated in stock and the only one I would recommend in the UK - the only ones that didnt screw me over. So If you cannot find one in Germany, try them. I have bought a few bits of gear from them and can say they have been great. So online stores sell camcorders cheap, but they are not really specialist stores and I have been through a few shops and they never seemed to have any XL1s...the supplier was always out of stock. So I think they either buy large 'grey imports' or bulk buy the odd cheap stock here and there and then sell the camcorders only as and when they have them.

Do you have an independant authenticator organisation like here in the UK??? We have WATCHDOG who only put their seal after looking at company and that they meet a certain criteria of good business dealings. You could contact them or a Trading Standards organisation and find out which companies are good from Camcorders.

Well good luck and hope you dont get screwed like I did!!! Some may be reliable as in they honour your purchase, but WHEN they fulfil that contract can vary, some take well over a month, where as ones like OPTEX its there the next day!

Well it has happened... I just bought the baby. I did some research on the German site and it turned out pretty good. I received a money back guaranty from a insurance company via trusted e-shops... and all the way through the order process they read me all my rights regarding buying on the internet, including links. So I never experienced such a good service internet wise, now lets hope they also deliver the goods.

I absolutely will keep you all updated on the progress... and till the next time, cause reading all the different experiences has helped me to enter mine ;o)
