Portabrace RS XL1-MA200 vs Kata Rain cover
 

What does everyone out there use to protect their XL1s? I dont know if a portabrace type coat exists for the XL1s, to give little padded cover and scratch protection with the rain cover in pocket. Does such a cover exist like those for upper range camcorders?

I have also seen examples of Kata Rain cover, which has velco on bottom. How does this fair to the Portabrace Rainslicker? Which is the one to go for?

Any help will be appreciated.

Absolutely bro, I have a PortaBrace Rainslicker for my XL1s. there are two sizes, one for the standard loadout, another made slightly longer to accomodate the MA-200. I bought the longer one, as I want that flexibility in the future. $10 more, no biggie!

Apparently the only problem with the PortaBrace, is the FU-1000 monochrome viewfinder will not fit inside. I've never seen the mono viewfinder in person so I can't say. The KATA cover however can accomodate the FU-1000.

I can say however, the PortaBrace is a great cover. I always have it on when I'm outside, it has plenty of zips and velcro for handle and control access. A must have IMO, if you shoot outdoors.

If you have the money, go for the Portabrace.
If not, the Kata offers good protection for the money.

I just ordered a portabrace for my XL1, I can't wait to start using it.

I saw your post on the Porta Brace rain sleeker and Kata cover. I'm in the same boat at the moment, need to make a choice between the two.

I have a dust problem and I'm hoping that a rain cover will help solve the problem.

Are you happy with your Porta Brace and would you recomend it?

I have had the portabrace rain slicker for about a month now. I havn't had a chance to try in the rain too much, but it sure looks good.

I would highly recommend it, if you have the money to spend. It looks great, and is very durable.

It is a great all weather camera cover.

I did some more reading and it seems most like the Porta Brace better, that basically settles it for me!

Kata Rain Gear
 

I use the Kata cover for my XL-1 and it works very well. However, it will not accommodate the camera fully dressed with accessories without protrusion.
