I just got the XL1S and I need a wide lens, this is a list to choose between. I want to get as wide as possible. Does anyone know of a site that shows examples of how wide a lens goes for those unfortunate people who dont know from the numbers? :-) Anyway, any recomendations would be appriciated.

Hi Michael,
None of these lenses will provide a wide angle on the XL1S. That's because any time you use EF lenses (such as the ones you list here) on the XL1S, you get an effective focal length magnification of 7.2x, turning any EF lens into telephoto or medium angle at best. See my Guide to XL1 & XL1S Lens Options for more info. Hope this helps, |
What Chirs said. If you want a wide angle lens for the XL1, get the Canon 3x XL Lens, or a wide angle adapter for the stock lens.
|
Thanks guys, you saved me a big mistake. You mention the 3x lens or the wide angle adapter for the stock lens, what is the stock lens? and which would you say is the better choice? the 3x or stock lens with adapters?

I'd rather have the 16x lens and the 3x lense, rather than just the 16x lens plus WA adapters.

Has anyone used one of the EF macro lens on the XL1(s)? Just wondering. other than that go with that 3x

Michael,
Unrelated to your question, but related to your shopping list, get the Glidecam 4000, instead of the 2000, for use with your XL1s. The basic designs are the same but the mechanical physics of the 4000 are better designed for the load of the XL1s. |
Yes, I've used the 100mm EF Macro lens. Very sharp lens.
|
Do you have pictures of what you used the lens for?
Rob:D |
wow, thanks for the help guys. Do you have a link to that wide angle Ef lens? And I will get the 4000 glid, thanks...
|
I'll find the footage and make a few stills and try to post them this weekend.
|
Thanks Jeff. I always wondered how the macro lens would look to the front end of the XL1(s). Since the adapter brings 7.2x to the macro, it would react fairly close to a normal lens with just a shorter focal distance? Or am I way off?

so this ef lens is better then the standard xl1s 3x wide lens? Im going to the video store tomorrow with my camera... what should I request to check out?
Michael Also, with this stardard 16x lens thats comes with it, I can't seem to find very much depth of focus... What am I doing wrong? Thanks |
Michael do a searh on your last question. There are alot of threads that deal with this subject. Remember to bring a tape as well so you can record what you see. That way you can review your findings and post some images.
