Thanks David. I expected it to be a beta for CS4 but I thought you had said the CS3 components were as stable as always and had not been touched. If removing that file fixes my CS3 issues I am happy as it is otherwise stable. I can deal with the IT issues while I putz around in CS4 until all the kinks get ironed out.

Thanks.

That's weird. I installed the new build and First Light now launches. Coincidence?

Although the media files I try to import are all invalid and/or corrupt, unfortunately.
Seems like we're getting closer anyway.

HI David.
First light now launches with the new beta and can play a cinform clip on my vista system.
The app crashes when you try to add a preset.

Also my firewire connection is no longer visible for the camera in HDlink.

I have installed the new Update and now i have this problem:

System HP
OS: XPSP3 - latest updates
RAM: 3GB
Proc: Q6600 (Quad 2.4GHz)
----------------------------
File: Captured with HDLink - XXX1.avi (34GB)
Works fine in PProCS3 - and CS4 _plays fine with WMP

Imported into First Light (same file) - i have received an error:
Invalid File
The file "XXX" is not a valid cineform file or is corrupted
Pressed OK - The file will stay in BIN though - when trying to reimport it FL says: This file is allready in your project.
Anyway - after that - i have opened the PProCS3 project and the files were black. Only sound.
The CS4 opens the project fine and playes the files ok.

Uninstalled the Prospect HD - reinstall - and now everytime i try to import the file CS3 crashes - saying:
Sorry a serious error has occured - .... and exits.

I have 2 PC's and on both of them - after opening the file with First Light and getting that error - the file wasn't recognized by CS3 anymore.

I`m i doing something wrong ?

PS
CS4 is working just fine ...

David,

Happy to report that the new beta seems to have fixed the choppy playback in CS4. Incredible difference.

FirstLight however, crashes on creation of new database.

Cheers, Cam

Installed the latest beta. First Light runs. However, there is no video in the playback monitor on playback.

If it helps... here is my system info.

New beta downloaded from page 7

Dave I had the following resaults

> First Light opens now but when importing CF file FLV player crashes.

Next exported short clip 3min from timeline to Media Cineform .avi setting 720x480 wide lower third. high quality. No crashes!!!!!!!!!!!

>I also rendered it in the time line it did stop and start about 5 times but did not crash.

>Imported into Encore and went to transcode and encor encoding failed???

Question in the media encoder where you set the resoultion if you type 720 with the lock on it wants to set the second size to 540? So I unlock the aspect lock and set 720x480 do I re lock or let it as it is.

I am testing a full export about 45min of clips now. Its going to take 5 hours it tell me so I will check on it later. vista/64 quad core

David,

Spoke too soon. Playback fine but now receiving "ImporterProcessServer" has stopped working. This application hang occurs during preview/import of CF .avi's. This has only occured since the new beta. Maybe you can shed some light?

Cheers David - Is there any versions that has the presets for PP CS4? I'm keen to see if thats my problem with jerky video? With a older PC and Aspect HD it was fine with editing HD videos and that was with PP 1.5

Moved to CS4 and its dog slow and jerky with the same source video.

Bruce, I tried Cineform AVI and also the Adobe MPEG Blu-Ray presets. Same results either way, it started then Import Process Server crashed.

Leaving Cineform out of the equation, it important to know that Adobe is famous for each version getting slower at the same things the previous version did easily. So when I moved from 1.5 to 2.0 I noticed a performance hit doing the same exact things. CS3 was an even bigger dog than PPRO2 and CS4 has outdone all of them.

Seriously, unlike Vegas (which I don't regularly use but I admit seems to get faster and faster with each version) Adobe seems to show little to no interest in optimizing their code for performance. They seem to only focus on new features with each version, the price of using it with any kind of responsiveness equal to the previous version is a serious hardware upgrade. I have to come to terms that simple HDV projects are going to take much longer to render in CS4 than CS3, even when I am not using any new feature or filters. Same simple HD clips in timeline with same exact effects take sooo much longer in CS4 and playback is not nearly as responsive.....yet.

I love Adobe products but if I have a project that does not require features of the newer versions, I can edit them so much faster in older versions.

In short, (too late...I know) I don't know that it is realistic to expect the same performance from CS4 that you see from PPRO 1.5 on the same hardware. Maybe Cineform will neutralize this a little....but PPRO CS4 requires much more processing in general.
