AVCHD and Prospect HD: Which Quality setting?

Hello,

I own the Panasonic HMC-150 which records with the AVCHD codec. I also own Prospect HD.

Cineform does a great job converting the AVCHD files. However, I noticed the size of cineform files are huge (10x bigger) compared to the AVCHD files. I must admit I use Filmscan 2 setting which is the highest quality setting.

Which quality seting does cineform recommend for converting AVCHD files to Cineform .avi's? Is setting "High" enough that it won't take a huge quality hit? The AVCHD files are filmed at 1920 x 1080 - 30p.

Any tips would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Simon

High is fine for a highly compressed sources like AVCHD.

High is good enough. Great!

What is the rule about when I should use Filmscan1 or 2?

Thanks,

Simon

For live sources that still have all the their original data. Capture from HDMI or HSDI use Filmscan1. Filmscan 2 are for those who have paranoia about compression, it used to be called Overkill.
