Question on Vegas 8 (64bit) and Cineform
I am currently using Prospect HD and CS3 for editing.
To speed up our production efforts I gave my copy of Vegas 8 (64bit) to a co-worker so that we can both edit and stay in cineform intermediate. We both share E-SATA drives. He is not able to import my cineform avi files and can only read the audio. Does he need to purchase a cineform app to run with Vegas? I thought the cineform read / write codec came with Vegas 8. If not, would neoscene work or what is recommended? Thanks for your help - |
Neo Scene would be recommended, but not necessary. All you need is the free decoder from the download section of the CineForm web site. The included codec in Vegas is simply too old.

Great, thanks for the info David!

Re-reading your question (in the title.) We have only tested 64-bit with Vegas 9 not 8. There is Sony bug that makes the 64-bit in 8 an issue for CineForm AVIs -- it was fixed with 9a. Also you will need Neo Scene (at least installed, not activated) to get the 64-bit decoder -- the free decoder package does have the 64-bit codec yet.

Thanks for clarifying David, it looks like we probably need to upgrade to Vegas 9 and purchase neoscene - no problem, thanks again ~

NeoScene is v1.3.6. Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to also install the free reader? EDIT - I found the following thread from a couple of months ago. Is CineForm NeoScene 64-bit still in beta? I guess that's why I don't have it in the NeoScene download? http://www.dvinfo.net/conf/cineform-...eta-vegas.html |
An update on the note I posted directly above -- it looks like the issue was that "In Build 121 posted on Aug 7, an out-of-date component was in the build which caused a problem for XP-64, Vista-64, and Win7-64": http://techblog.cineform.com/?p=860
Cineform posted a new build today, which works for me and I've purchased the software. Thanks! |
