Super whites in 3.0

Hi David,

Downloaded the 3.0 trial and reconverted some material with super whites. They still appear to be clipped at 100 according to the waveform.

Well yes according to Adobe's waveforms which doesn't ever show above 100 IRE (we intend to address that is a future Aspect release.) However, if you put a color corrector (of any type) on the clip, you can pull the clipped hightlights into legal ranges. Try adjusting brightness or controls to what highlights you can get back. These HDV cameras put a fair amount of information in the super-whites.

When I look at material downcoverted by the Z1 and brought into PPro via firewire in a DV Project the scope in PPro shows whites up to 110 ire. If I imprt that clip into an AspectHD project and expand the clip to fill the frame the scope shows whites peaking at 100 ire.

Should I assume that the super white are present?

Have you tried adding a contrast or brightness filter then doing the experiment I suggested? The DV mode is using YUV to show 110 IRE, the problem is with RGB filters (nearly all of premiere's filter) will clip to 100 IRE. The video system RGB mode of Aspect HD can prevent this. However, in RGB mode Premiere doesn't believe 100+ IRE exists (thus those annoying scopes.) The super-whites are there (if captured using Aspect HD, not PPro 1.5.1) you just have to manipulate the image with color correction to use them.

Yes, I see what you mean. Thanks.

When we replace the Premiere scopes it will be clearer, but the important thing is the super-whites can now be used. I hope it works out well for you.
