Field order

Is there a tool (beside the Bridge)that can read the field order of a Cineform avi. Gspot can't.
I have this weird 'issue'.
I capture a hdv tape with NeoScene. As hdv is upper i assume the CF avi is also upper.
Drop it in CS4 on a upper field timeline (hdv 1080i25).
When i export the timeline as a Cineform avi i choose upper in the AME, the avi I end up with has the fields all wrong.
When i export with LFF it all looks just fine.
So is CS4 interpreting the footage all wrong or what....

Yes, based on the non-info in the CF files. I have seen the opposite as well, that 720p50 interprets as field based footage in Pr and Ae.

Use Interpret Footage and set CF 1080i files to Upper Field First. :)

Hey Roger fancy seeing you here. :-)
CS4 interpretes the footage as upper, so far so good
Its when i export to upper, the CF avi does not look right. I have to export to lower.

Thanks Ann! :)

Thats strange, where are you viewing the exported file, on computer or television? Are you exporting to SD or HD?

To inspect field order, I use a Virtualdub plugin called ViewFields:

ViewFields: This filter is nearly identical to the unfold fields option within VirtualDub's built-in deinterlace filter except that it re-arranges the top field on the top and the bottom field on the bottom of a frame.

Thanks Graham i will have go at it.
Roger: i am viewing on a pc but when i convert it to mpeg2-dvd with the same fieldorder burn it to dvd and play it on the pc or a regular tv with a standalone it is still wrong.

Hi Ann -

I have the same workflow and have just encountered the same problem. I had to export with LFF. I haven't had time to investigate this more. Have you had any success yet?

Ann Bens April 20th, 2010 12:56 PM

Have not found an answer yet to why the fields are all muddled up.
I am still exporting to lower field and if that is the way to solve the issue, so be it.
But it still does not feel right...
