ConnectHD and AspectHD

Have AspectHD for Premier Pro and the capture works fine, however when I installed ConnectHD for use with Vegas I can't seem to see that it is even recognized by the software. When I tried to place the activation key into HDLink that came with ConnectHD the number for Premier Pro's came up.

Did I miss something in the install or do I have two instances of HDLink both with the same activation key.

As always any help is appreciated

Jim

Aspect HD includes every feature of Connect HD, you really don't need both on the same system. They should however coexist.

Ron Evans August 8th, 2005 07:11 PM

David does that mean that if one has Premiere Pro and Vegas 6 one only has to buy Aspect HD to take advantage in both NLE's?

Yes that is correct. Aspect HD is a super-set of Connect HD, so Aspect HD will allow both Premire Pro and Vegas to be enhanced without multiple installs.

Boy, I can understand that Jim! Don't think that was explained well on the site.

Maybe they will allow you to sell your copy! Still waiting for my hard copy of Aspect HD.

Ready to go fishing again, or are you in the hunting phase already? I'm bored to death. Finished rebuilding my powerhead, so will get back out, but still probably going to sell the boat anyway.

Best of luck to you.

Mike

Jim,

Yes of course. Please email your request to salesinfo@cineform.com and they will refund your Connect HD purchase. Give us a few days as all our sales staff are at tradeshow until Thursday.

I didn't realize AspectHD worked with Vegas. Or does only part of it work with Vegas?

David Newman August 9th, 2005 04:20 PM

Only parts do. At a very simple high level:

Connect HD includes:
1) HDLink link for M2T capture, conversion and export
2) Direct Show decoder for playback support
3) Video for Window codec for video tools support (like Vegas 5/6.)

Aspect HD includes:
1) All of Connect HD
+
2) Real-time playback pipeline for Premiere Pro (for 2-3X speed over Connect HD.)
3) Real-time effects and transtions.
4) Premiere integrated HDV capture/conversion with timeocde and batch capture support

So for user of both Premiere Pro and Vegas you only need Aspect HD. For users of Vegas only, Connect HD will work fine. Aspect HD is the more advanced product which is reflected in its pricing.

Great news David

I've held off buying your products becuase I can't make up my mind between Vegas and Premiere.

You may be missing out on a key benefit that could have substantial marketing value.

I want to commend you for being so resposive to questions, problems and even complaints.

Question: Does Cineform offer academic pricing? If not, would you reconsider. I believe there are many students who would like to buy Aspect, but can't afford it.

Thanks

David Newman September 11th, 2005 09:30 AM

You might be completely correct that we haven't capitalized on the marketing opportunities for Aspect HD. That is why a forum like this helps. Yes, Aspect HD does everything Connect HD does and more (including Vegas and AE support.)

We haven't yet reached the volumes for HDV where academic pricing makes sense (other than classroom licenses which we are doing.) Also that pricing model is often about gaining future customers 5+ years away (the Apple model), yet a small company like CineForm really needs to focus on today's customers, and use inovation to get customers in the future.

To add to this thought, if somebody purchases Connect HD, and then later decides to move to Aspect HD, we have always given full credit for the price paid for Connect HD on your upgrade to Aspect HD, regardless of how long ago the Connect HD purchase was made. We have an "upgrade" link to manage this, although we've kept it hidden and make it available upon request.

Connect HD and Aspect HD only have VFW coder without Direct Show?
And both have decoder VFW and DS, right?
Only Prospect HD include DS encoder?

All CineForm tools come will the complete set of codec tools. DirectShow and VfW encoder and decoder. PHD has 10-bit versions, and AHD & CHD has the 8-bit codecs, however the data is interchangable. If you only every use Vegas Connect HD is all you need, if you use a range of applications including Premiere, Aspect HD will be best. If you are a film-maker or a broadcaster using Premiere and After Effects Prospect HD is best.

David,if Connect HD have standart Direct Show encoder why impossible capture to CFHD with DeckLink HD card?
