Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro

" I guess the chances of seeing Cineform licensed in other hardware products now diminishes to almost zero."

Not at all. GoPro open to making the codec used by far more than ever before.

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro

It seems like a match made in heaven.

Maybe you can talk them into releasing the 3d case with the cameras sbs as opposed to one camera upside down.

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro

There is an excellent reason for flipping that camera for the closer inter-axial. GoPro subjects can get very close to the lens, for that type of 3D image to work the IA needs to be short.

But that is indeed the proper way to do it... to get as small an inter-axial distance as possible.

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro

Yeah, I know why they did it....not everyone wants to film themselves jumping off a cliff with the cameras pointing at their head. I'd just like them to release the prototype (as well) that had an interocular of 61mm versus 32mm on the one that is released.

What you gain in decreased inter-axial you probably lose in shutters rolling in the opposite direction. these are CMOS sensors right?

Will you be demoing this new creation at NAB? If yes, at your booth, GoPro's or both?

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro

This is fantastic news, David. Congrats on an excellent decision. I'm super excited to see what's going to happen in the next 18 months.

This has to mean a hardware encoder is in the works. This is going to be huge! Cineform RAW cameras and HDMI/HDSDI recorders... Can't wait to talk your ear off at NAB!

Thanks!

If a camera is to be the R&D outcome of the connubial delights engaged in by the two entities, it is likely to be one wild child.

Whatever form it takes - anyone's guess. Fullframe 2K sensor POV camera? POV 3D camera pod? 3D recorder guts for P+S SI2K camera recorder body?????

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro

Whilst I was surprised at first by the merging of two seemingly completely unrelated companies, I'm starting to see how it all makes sense now.

This is great for me because I'm a huge fan of GoPro products - my business is in the action sports industry so they're invaluable tools to us. And I also happen to be a huge fan of CineForm - it's a core piece of my post workflow and it's made the whole editing process so much more efficient for me. I really can't wait to see what comes out of this (although I'm not a fan of 3D at all) - a new GoPro using CineForm Intermediate compression? HDMI / HD-SDI recording device direct to CineForm (that would be a godsend - I've been waiting for that for so long)? Who knows?

Re: CineForm Bought By GoPro

Just saw the interview on FreshDV - NOW its all making a bit more sense. Dont think I've ever seen a bigger ear to ear grin on anyone that late in an NAB show...must be a GoPro thing ;-)

Cant wait to see the new pricing and more importantly, the new products (Cineform recorder) which surely must be coming in the not too distant future.

Exciting times.
