Breaking Up of Video Clips is Breaking My Heart!!!
 

It really is!!! Okay, I'm going to put my emotions aside, LOL. In all seriousness though, I do have quite an issue on my hands.

So I've recently upgraded from tape-based media and started shooting/capturing onto CF Cards. I'm shooting with a Canon XF100 now. Anyway, my computer is saving the video files that I have captured as .MXF files. And furthermore, the video footage is being broken up into five-minute segments. (Example: One hour of video footage is broken up into 10, 5-minute clips.) I edit with Adobe Premiere Pro CS3 and cannot import the raw .MXF files but that's okay because I use Cineform HD Link to convert the files to .AVI files. And so I use the following settings to convert my .MXF files to .AVI files. Please take a look at the settings by clicking the following link.

So with all that said, here is the main issue. After the conversion is complete, I import the converted (.AVI) files into Premiere CS3. I then play the files back in the timeline and at the end of each 5-minute segment the audio cuts out for almost a second. Thus when I try to put two clips back together on the timeline there is a very noticeable dropout of audio from one 5-minute segment to the next.

I've tried a few things and have yet to find a solution but I was just wondering if anyone out there was experiencing this issue or something similar to it. And if so, were they able to find a resolution that is working? I am still in talks with the great support staff at Cineform but I thought I would at least try to see if anyone else was experiencing this.

Okay, I just looked at the issue again and it seems to be doing the same thing to every clip (five minutes long or not). Now I am completely perplexed...*sigh*.

I use a Canon XF305 and I have not noticed this error. Please report this to support.cineform.com, file a bug report as they need to test if it is general or something on your end.

Have you tried using the XF utility to merge the files into a single file?

David, I have already e-mailed Cineform support for assistance with this issue. The support person is outstanding!!! I just sent him an e-mail recently with another troubleshooting question that I had. I'm waiting to hear back from him. Should I post my issue on the actual Cineform website? Thank you for your help.

Chris, is there really a way to merge multiple files into one single file? That might actually help me. Can you please send me some information on how to do this? Or is it in the manual anywhere? Thank you for your help.

I've been using the XF305 a lot recently, and I don't have this problem. The files are recorded on the CF card in the camera in 5 minute chunks, but I can join them all seamlessly (PPRO CS5).

I was just wondering if it made any difference how you convert them, and whether you point HDlink at the top CLIPS folder, or whether you convert the MXF files one by one?
