Help: Mixing Cineform HDV 60i and 30F

I need to edit footage captured with a Canon XH-A1 that was shot in both 60i and 30F modes. I have captured both using Aspect HD under the proper capture settings depending on the mode the footage was shot in.

Now I need to edit the two types of footage together in PPro 2.0. What project settings should I set up so that both types of footage can be edited together?

What type of production are you working on, what are your delivery format(s). For the lowest common denominator you need to work in a 1080i60 mode, which is fine for both progressive and interlaced sources. If you are targeting a progressive up you will need to deinterlace the 60i material.

The delivery format will be a DVD. Is it still best to work in the 60i setting?

If you want a 60i DVD, then yes. Some like the progressively encode DVD for that resolution gain for progressive HD displays, but it reduces your motion smoothness. Stick with 60i.

David, thanks for the help. So, I will edit the project in a 60i timeline for both the 30f and the 60i clips. When it comes to render it out as a full 1440x1080 Cineform file do I set the entire project to upper field? Also, when I create the standard def 16:9 DVD, what field order do I use? Thanks again!

When you are doing an HD res export it is upper field first, for SD NTSC it is lower field first.

As always, thank you for the wonderful customer support. If only more companies were as responsive.
