QuickTime <-> MXF Converter Planned
 

Just an FYI, we are now working on a QuickTime <-> MXF converter for the Flash XDR / nanoFlash files. It won't be a universal converter as it will only support files created by XDR/nano. But it will enable users to convert from one format to another after a shoot.

This should help situations where the client changes his/her mind midway through a production and decides to edit on a PC Avid system after you have just finished a week of shooting in Quicktime. Or, when the client only has a MAC to review the footage that you shot in MXF.

Release date has not been set (or projected), but the utility will be available at no cost to XDR/nano users.

I actually managed to demux the quicktime file into a raw m2v file on a PC but for whatever reason it wouldn't play back as well in Avid Liquid as other 100 mbit m2v files. I encoded the stripped out m2v file as a new 100 mbit m2v file and it worked perfectly. Clearly something isn't getting demuxed properly even though all the raw data is there. Just to note the m2v file does play fine in VLC player however. I hope this isn't a problem with the way the XDR creates the mpeg2 encoding. I sure would love to test a proper MXF file.

Thanks for the feedback, this is a bit of a mystery. I would be surprised if there is a problem with the MPEG2 encoding as we simply write the MPEG2 elementary stream from the Sony CODEC directly onto the CF cards.

MXF should come in the next 2-3 weeks. We have a great deal of the code finished, just need to complete the headers.
