XDR: When will XDcam 720 30p be available?

XDR: When will XDcam 720 30p be available for FCP and AVID?

Thanks for the updates that will come out later today.

Cheers,
Scott

Hi Scott-
Let me discuss with our engineers on Monday. It may not be a difficult upgrade, but I need to ask first.

Thanks, I'm shooting in 720 30p again tomorrow and I can't use the XDR. I think all my shoots in 720 have been in 30p for the last 9 months.

Thanks,
Scott

Douglas,

Can you shoot in 1080p30 and downconvert?

Douglas Scott February 9th, 2009 01:16 AM

I would have to think about that, but my first response would be no to shooting 1080 30p. The client is expecting 720 and I don't have time for converting after the shoot. If I did, I wouldn't need the XDR. I could record to P2 cards, dump them into FCP and output them in whatever format. The XDR is suppose to be a time saver for me (my clients) and get me the XDcam format out of my DVCPro HD (HDX900) camera.

720p30/25/24 Support Question

Hi Scott-
Which NLE program are you using to edit 720p30 material? Also, what bit-rate do you need? I know that FCP does not support a 720p30 4:2:2 profile, but we can drop back to 4:2:0 color space, if needed. Finally, are you looking for MXF or QT support (or both).

Thanks-

I am using FCP 6., but my clients use FCP and AVID.

I think the 50 mbps will be used for most of the freelance work for TV magazine, news, documentary, corporate, Satellite uplinks, etc. For the productions I produce, I can use whatever I feel is appropriate for the project, my editing system and delivery format(s).

Hi Scott-
720p30/25/24 50Mbps 4:2:2 (XDCAM HD 422) is definitely not supported in FCP, we are now checking with Avid and Edius.

It looks like those clients that shoot 720 30p will be out of luck as far as the XDR/XDcam is concerned. I think that XDcam is based more on the 1080 format and so offers more options in frame rates.

I'll have to see what the 1080 users are going to go with this year as far as frame rates.

If I read it right, the XDR records at 1080p 30, 25 & 24 and 1080i at 60 & 50 frame rates?

...For what it's worth to you Scott, we shoot frequently in HD 720 p 30 with a Canon Power Shot TX 1 Digital Hybrid Camera, and both Avid Xpress & Media Composer will accept video files with this spec if you import them into a 720 p 29.97 project. It is quite bizarre to note Avid does not have any HD 720 p 30 Project choice in their format list. However, both HD 720 p 29.97 & 720 p 60 will handle HD 720 p 30 video.

EDIT: Avid Supports XDCAM at 720 p 23.976, 720 p 25, 720 p 29.97, 720 p 50, 720 p 59.94
DVCProHD: at the same rates as above.

Hi Mark-

Thanks for the feedback on the Avid support of 720p30/25/24 formats. I assume these are supported with the 4:2:0 35 Mbps XDCAM HD CODEC. Do you knwo if Avid supports these formats in the XDCAM HD 422 50Mbps CODEC also?

Thanks-
