What are the record times using Long GOP?

Could Dan or Mike please go over the record times with a 32gig & 64gig Flash Card when recording using the Long GOP format with the Flash XDDR/ Nano Flash?


Also, are the Photoflash new 64 gig cards approved for use yet with the Flash XDR?

For one 32 GB card and 100 Mbps we typically state 40 minutes.
Our users are reporting 42 minutes.

We have not fully qualified the PhotoFast cards at this time. We want to be very cautious as this is a new manufacturer to us.

I consistently get 42 mins per 32Gb Sandisk Extreme III CF card @ 100Mbps.

Which corresponds to exactly 31.5GB.

I known I have mentioned this before during me early day’s with the NanoFlash but now I am using the NanoFlash in live production work my earlier fears have been confirmed. Would it be possible to have a 75Mbps step included into the firmware for event long form work. I know you are introducing hot swappable card feature but I regard that as playing with fire to swap cards in and auditorium with dim lighting. The chance of human error and ejecting the wrong card is too great. For event work I really need to extend the record time past 90 min on at pair of 32gb cards and 180 min on a pair of 64gb cards. If we look at video tape record times of 90min and 184min this is a good guide. The ultimate solution would be user selectable data rate from the menu and eliminate the steps, because we all have different requirements this could be a good solution if the hardware will allow it.

We share your concerns about Hot Swapping.

We will consider adding 75 Mbps.

For every bit rate that we add, we have to test that bit rate in the Flash XDR, the nanoFlash, and then test the files in every editor. My guess is that adding 75 Mbps will add a day to our testing for every firmware release.

We were reluctant to add 75 Mbps since we felt that the actual difference between 50 and 75 Mbps would be slight. The 50 Mbps is the same quality as the PDW-700 and PDW-F800 cameras.

We will again consider your request. I will ask about opening up a wide range of bit-rates. But, I have no idea how we would have time to test all of the new bit-rates.
