EX-3 Rec PSF and Remove Pulldown

I have read the manual over and can't wrap myself around when and when not to use these settings for 1080 30p 1080 24p to edit in FCP. When the EX-3 is in 24P the Record Progressive is invoked automatically, but not in 30p. When would I remove the 3:2 pulldown and why? Sorry to be so lost. Does someone have a simple explanation to keep all this straight?

If your camera is set to record 24p but the SDI signal coming from your camera is 60i, then you would want to use 3:2 pulldown removal to get the original 24p frames from the 60i signal.

Hopefully that makes sense and keeps it simple for you.

pull down removal

The files would be true 24 fps (23.97) with the removal on. Use for film delivery presumably.

24psf on EX1 vs 60i on EX3

Just to confuse matters -- the last time I looked, the latest firmware versions for the EX1 give you a menu option to output 24psf through the HD-SDI when shooting in 24p mode - hence not requiring 3:2 pulldown removal, while to the best of my knowledge that option has not yet been added to the EX3 (which always outputs in 60i mode)

Hi Dave,
The EX have the option of out put 24pfs or 60i.
Look in the Menu.

24 Psf out on EX3?

Hi Rafael,
I have the 24Psf output option in the menu of my EX1 (ever since I had the firmware updated.)
But None of my friends with EX3's have it in their menus.
Have you seen it on an EX3? - what firmware version?
Thanks,
Dave S.
