Some more observations with Beta firmware...

Dear Dan,

Just three quick points for you to consider and comment:

1. My PhotoFast cards are reported as UDMA5 capable; still I can only record at 180 Mbps max (log-GOP), and 220 Mbps max (I-Frame) - is that what should be expected?

2. Testing some I-frame 220 Mbps footage in Vegas, I can report that:

- Vegas 8.0c just crashes when I try to put such clip in the timeline
- Vegas 9.0c takes them OK (no green frames at the clip header that the MXF version suffers from), but some single frames inside the clip length are black

3. With mxf, I could delete clips on the CF cards using Windows Explorer, and after inserting the card into the nano, the card usage bars were empty. With I-frame, even though the }CLP{ folder seems empty in Windows, upon re-inserting the nano still shows the bar, indicating the card is partially filled. In spite of that, it reports (rightfully) there is "no last clip" when pressing the playback button...Only after re-formatting does the usage bar disappear!

Yeah, you recommend reformatting before each use - but if deleting all clips in the PC is enough with mxf, why not with I-frame?

Best,

Piotr

Dear Piotr,

1. Yes.

2. Vegas 8.0(c) does not support our I-Frame Only modes.

We will have to test for black frames in our lab. We will have to prove whether this is our problem or a Vegas 9.0(c) problem.

3. We only allow the "Delete Last Clip" for a while. If you remove the card, or power down the nanoFlash you can no longer "Delete Last Clip".

If you record another clip, then there is a new "Last Clip".

4. We specifically ask that you not delete clips by taking the cards to a computer or other device.

This creates fragmentation, and interferes with our ability to record successfully. This interferes with the reliability of the nanoFlash.

Please format the cards in the nanoFlash prior to use.
