Signal breakup during recording
 
I work also as a steadicam operator and a tried to use the NF to record ISO. As I use a wireless HD-SDI system (IDX camwave) I planned to connect the NF to the secundary SDI out of the Receiver. The system is setup for maximum reception in the covering area but there are always a few bad spots when I am backstage, so not actual on the program. This causes signal breakups, but not a problem for the broadcast as my cam will not be selected.
However, the NF will stop recording and the files seem corrupt. Could be that I had a breakup shortly after record start.
Is there a possibility that the NF continues recording by itself when the signal comes back?

edit: I discovered that the "record on power up" function does support the signal present recording. It will do, I think. Just needing enough space on the cards.
good stuff this thing! Lets aim for the "Pico", Than there is a possibility for me to put this one on the SC-rig.

But the function 'rec on embedded timecode' does not work on the reciever but it could be that the timecode signal is filtered out to gain bandwith...
I guess I have to work on a remote tally thing to trigger the recording, but then I suffer the breakup problems again. What about a simple remote on/off switch on the powersupply (the ones you can buy at every E-store)? Would there be enough load for this to work?

Why would you want to work this way? Just stick the NanoFlash on the sled, far more reliable with no signal loss or image breakup to corrupt your recordings. The NanoFlash is hardly heavy.

Hi,

I have the same set-up, using a PDW-700 XDCam, and a Flash XDR, so it's heavier than the Nanoflash. I mounted the Flash XDR to the 700's handle (via gaffers, it's not pretty....), connected the HD-SDI out to the Flash XDR, then relayed the HD-SDI out of the XDR to the Camwave. Your not going to get any degradation of picture going through the NF/XDR to the Camwave. You are going to, if you do it the way you are currently setting it up at the moment (or should I say more susceptible).
Is there a reason you'd want to rely on a wireless link receiver to record your pictures, instead of straight from the cam itself? If there is a reason for it, then you'd may look into an HD link that's able to take in more interference and less drop-outs, such as a BOXX system.

You guys are right but it's all a matter of application, weight... and budget.
I don't want any more weight on the sled and a Boxx is more expensive (and was not available when I needed it 2 years ago). The cover of the camewave is flawless on the areas I need it to be, just a matter of placing the reciever right. The NF works only as a backup and for evaluation purposes. The things I want to record will be dipless and if important I record ISO in the cam anyway.
I just wanted the NF to go back in record mode. Even if I a have changed batteries, take a break etc.
And it does! great potential, and with this little power consumption it runs forever on a pro battery.
