Overcrank Double Sound Recorded?!?

Hello,

Just testing a NanoFlash that I have rented in for a shoot.

EX3 720 50p

Latest firmware on both.

NanoFlash is in i frame 220mbs. Crank menu is 25 on the left, and 50 on the right.

When I play back in Quicktime it looks like the clips are indeed at 50fps. I am confused by the audio that is recorded and playing back. At first glance it seems like the audio is just playing back at 25fps. But I am very confused by the audio repeating itself. In other words, doubling up.

Playing FPS are 25.

I will be safety recording to the SxS cards, but it would be nice to know whats happening.

Thanks,

Ben

Dont think you get use able audio in over crank.. on any camera..

Ben Ruffell September 8th, 2010 03:25 AM

Thats why I am confused. Why is there audio there at all?

There is some info on audio in this thread http://www.dvinfo.net/forum/converge...-pal-land.html Post 13 says "We have not disabled the audio during over and under-cranking"

Ben,

The same here. I never understood why the audio is recorded at all, and how come it repeats itself?

Glad I am not the only one!

I will relax a little about my shoot tomorrow. Thanks everyone!

I guess its double as double the frame rate? but anyway as your not going to use it I wouldnt lose any sleep over it.. as long as the image is ok..

You're right, not a big deal to worry about - I just delete the audio track anyway, but it simply is a mystery to me: is the audio repeated "on purpose" (i.e. the nanoFlash firmware has been designed this way), or is it an unintentional effect?

Dear Friends,

We have not disabled the audio during over and under-cranking.

However, we have in our manual a note that the audio is not usable in this over and under-cranking mode.

I believe that this is typical of most cameras.

We just did not disable the audio.

For my self, having the EX-3 doesn't makes sense using the NANO's overcranking.
Shoot full p50 and Conform to p25 the stuff that you need slow down.
You will have the full original sound too.
