Wonderful Times for nanoFlash/nano3D users
 

Dear Friends,

These are wonderful times for nanoFlash / nano3D owners and users.

Our Quicktime and MXF files now play in the free VLC Media Player 1.1.4 (Windows).

CineForm has a Beta version out that works with our files and it appears to work well.

Sony Vegas 10 works well with our files.

Avid's latest releases, 5.0.3.2 now offer AMA support for our files, which is a real time-saver.

Adobe CS5 works great with our files.

Our File Converter now works on both the Mac and the PC.

Our MXF files work well with Sony Optical Disk.

Our MXF files can be converted to Quicktime via a free Sony Final Cut Pro Plug-In.

Our MXF files play great in the free Sony XDCam Clip Viewer.

And our firmware supports:

Over and Under-Cranking
A very wide selection of frame rates and options.
Time-lapse
Special Playback Features (Cue-up to a certain frame for playback)
Loop Recording
8-Channel Audio
Loop Playback

And our next firmware release, which is undergoing very thorough testing, will support

Hot Swapping
Profiles (Custom Presets)
Record Trigger Delay for certain Tape Based Cameras
Vertical Image Flip
Horizontal Image Flop
Image Flip + Image Flop
Skip to Next CompactFlash Card, while recording
Low Power Standby Mode re-activated
Remote Control via a Serial RS-232 Interface (May be an extra cost feature)
Expanded range of analog audio input (Audio->Analog Settings->Gain In) : -99 to +44 dB


And this is not an exhaustive list.

And these are exciting times as new cameras are coming out, such as the Panasonic AF100 which is a perfect match for the nanoFlash.

For 3D, our nano3D now has anaglyph support, and a 50/50 Combine Mode, which is useful for camera alignment and other purposes. And the nano3D works great with the now shipping 3D A1 camera as well as the most sophisticated of 3D rigs.

And of course, one can purchase a nanoFlash now and upgrade to 3D later without the loss of your investment.

This is great news the Nanoflash has now finally come of age, the hot swap cards, profiles and 3D are truly innovative.
Would you be able to elaborate on the "Remote Control via a Serial RS-232 Interface (May be an extra cost feature)" I am looking at how to control multiple Nanoflash units from my Tricaster.

Enhanced Audio Meter Accuracy?
 

Hey Dan,

Is there any chance that the next sw release will include better VU meter accuracy or resolution? It would be great if -20 on the Nano looked like -20 on the camera's meter.

And, yes, the Nano will be a perfect match for the AF100. My goal is to mount it on rails behind the camera, coupled with an Anton Bauer Gold Mount.

Congrats to CD again! All of the updates that has happened and the ones coming in, makes me really happy!
WOW, really, when it rains it pours....

Dan would you please elaborate on how many Profiles (Custom Presets) are/would be available (1 to 10?) and if any restrictions for any other option settings? Of course, please, feel free to combine your answer with the answers to the Gents who asked questions before me. Thank you

Dear Lance,

Our serial remote control of the nanoFlash is very specialized.

We could work with Newtek, if they are interested.

Depending on what one wants to do, the protocol can be very simple.

For example if a nanoFlashes ID is 01, then 01R will put the unit into record mode, nice and simple.

But, it gets more complicated if one wants to exercise full control over the nanoFlash, as there are many commands.

We can check the calibration.

We use a Tektronix audio signal generator to calibrate the audio level meters.

Our goal is to match -20 to the graduations and numbers on the case.

Originally our developer allowed for 8 profiles.

I asked for 20. I did not think 8 was enough.

We will probably refine this feature over time.

The profiles can be renamed to meaningful names.

Yes, one might load one nanoFlash profile into a nano3D, but I do not think this would be a recommended practice as the nano3D firmware has additional menu items.

"Profiles" will be fantastic!
Will save a lot of headaches and mistakes by fools like myself.

I can confirm this - no more green frames. What's more - even the 220 Mbps files play at full fps, and Best quality!

Thanks Dan. Frankly, judging from the prolonged time it is taking for the new firmware to arrive, I was suspecting this is gonna happen...

Oh to be damned with faint praise Dan!
Roughly when will the firmware be available? I for one would also like to see a few hardware improvements, better mounting options (that 1/4"screw!), a soft but strong case (neoprene?) and being an XLH1 owner some form of cable management.
