Nanoflash / GefenTV Composite to HDMI / Sony Z1
 

I've been using Nanoflash successfully with a variety of cameras ... all good and very happy. I do have a Sony Z1 that is still working beautifully on certain jobs, however no sdi or hdmi out. Just wondering if the GefenTV Composite to HDMI Scaler could act as a possible solution to enable me to use this camera for some timelapse with nanoflash ... or any other solution that someone has come across?

The Composite Output is Standard Definiation (SD), you will be losing quality when the SD signal is upconverted to HDMI for input to the nanoFlash.

The Gefen unit is designed to conect to a computer monitor.

If the signal is a "Camera Type" 1080i or 1080p signal, then the nanoFlash should be able to record it.

If you want to try it, then I would ensure that I could return it if the image quality is not what you need.

The other issue is how you wish to use it. If you want to be portable, you will have to provide precise 5V power to the unit. Just connecting a battery to it will not work.

If you have adequate light, and do not need fancy controls, or professional features, the Canon HV30/HV40 and HFS10/21 etc. series cameras will be a major step forward in terms of image quality. And the lower priced models of these can be purchased for about twice the cost of the converter.

I realised that I would get an SD signal, not a problem on certain jobs and I don't want to relocate the Z1 to the junk pile yet :-) As you indicated plenty of other camera options available.
