New mac.. files with lines through them
 

Hi all

A problem.. bought a new mac book pro.. had all apps etc moved over from old to new by Apple.Just plugged in a HDD with QT files from the nano.. they play but with thick grey lines through them horizontally and thinner ones vertically .. play fine on the old one..
Thinking something to do with license of the Calibrated software I had on the old computer..? anyone else had this problem?

Sounds like your version of calibrated is running in demo mode.
As I recall when I looked into Calibrated, it's license was for a single machine.
You may need to contact them to get the license transferred to the new computer.

Yes thanks the problem was buying a new computer.. I did mange with very good and speedy support to get it going again.Had to un install from old one first.. and some other trickery.. to get it going.. but strangely the icons on the HDD still have the lines... but they play fine with the license transferred..? which could only be done once.. twice from Nov 2010 downloads..

Had the same deal with shotput pro.. had to deactivate the old one..and then activate new one with serial number.. never had to deal with this before.. bit of a pain..but thankfully I had the serial numbers still.. so much easier if you buy it in a box..!!

Robin, i recently bought a new MBP, and works great with the NANO stuff.

I also use MacBook Pro and MacPro computers along with Shotput Pro the licensing system is a real pain in the butt, I am for ever having to activate and deactivate the serial number depending which machine I am working on.

Yes the Mac BP is great .. and works fine with the nano footage.. my problem was I didnt know how the re set the license for calibrate XD to the new mac from the old one.Like wise with shotput pro.. although this was much easier to do.
Thanks to fantastic support from Calibrated it got sorted out very easily.. and I,ll have more idea next time..

Luckily I only use the one.. so dont have to do that.. I guess the companies also have to cover their behinds.. !

Just reading a bit about Calibrated.. do you turn off the auto prefetching function when using Mac book pro for better play back?

I have QT version 10.. ?

So you need install QT 7.
Is in Extras on the Snow Leopard Installation Disk.
QT X its doesn't replaces QT 7.
In the future will do it, but at the moment you need both.

What is the advantage of 7 over 10,..? should the newer version not be better?

Just want to add that the support from Calibrated, Greg.. and Shotput pro, Dan..has been really amazing.. got everything running in a day..

Info from Greg is that Iam playing back clips from the ext HDD.. that I have copied to.. just to check its there!! and the ext HDD is slow and the USB connection is also slowing it down.. therefore it stutters a bit.

Will try a clip played off my internal HD see if its better..

The difference in short, is that there is not yet a "QT X Pro".
At the moment it works just as a player, and limited to certain codecs (without QT 7 can not read many QT codecs). Lacks all the functions of QT Pro:
- No Export
- No access to properties
- Lack of important editing options...
Just compare both applications menus: Is like plain QT Player; no Pro.
