After much deliberation I believe I will be moving in the nano direction, mostly because my Sony fx 1000 can work off the hdmi port, if I understand this correctly. I DO LIKE THE IMPROVEMENT OF QUALITY OF THE FULL HD OFF THE HEADS AS APPOSED TO THE COMPRESSED HDV WHICH IS NICE ENOUGH.

I regret now having bought the xlh1 A version as apposed to the S!! hindsight you know!

If you are recording at a higher bit rate will the nano make the hdv video look somewhat improved over that recorded at the standard 25 mbs for tape recording??? Can you even do that or is the converter from AJA a requisite??

With an original XL H1, or the XL H1s, yes the video looks better when recorded with the nanoFlash.

We have not run tests using the XL H1a using a Component to HD-SDI adapter, such as AJA's.

Thus, regretably, I am not in a great position to comment on the quality versus HDV. Sorry.

Can I record straight HDV from the xlh1A and at a higher bit rate would it look better than if captured from tape????

do you understand what \I am getting at (no converter) in this regard?

The nanoFlash accepts HD-SDI, or SD-SDI.

Your camera's output is Firewire at 25 Mbps. This is already after compression.

The other output is Component, which is not accepted by the nanoFlash, unless a converter is used to obtain HD-SDI.

Thus, without a converter, the nanoFlash cannot be used with Canon XL H1a, Sorry.

I do not know, sorry.

We have not tested the quality of the image that can be obtained using a nice camera like the XL H1a, with a converter, and a nanoFlash.

I can say, that the image will be better from an XL H1 or XL H1s using HD-SDI to feed the nanoFlash.

But, how much better, I do not know.
