Combining MXFs or recording MOVs to combine?
 

I recently did a recording of a 15 minute show on 30Mbps IMX, It spat out 2 MXF files. When I did the command line prompt "copy /b" on the two files, the resulting file ended too soon upon import into Vegas.

I heard the concatenator combines MOV files no problem, but MXFs apparently need more to re-wrap a stitched file. Should I record long-form clips in MOV from now on, or is Convergent working on a way to combine MXFs?

If there is no way to combine MXFs, I will keep in mind that I have to record MOVs to be able to stitch long clips, such as interviews.

Dear Jack,

The "/b" copy, a binary copy of two files to stitch them together will not work for video files.

We offer a Mac Utility to combine ".MOV" files together.

We also have created a PC Version that will take ".MXF"'s, and stitch them together, while converting them to ".MOV".

If you need the latter, please send me an email.

There is no way to retain MXF format while stitching? I work in Sony Vegas so stitching then converting it to MOV will not work for me.

Also, I do not own a Mac so I cannot use XDCAM Transfer to convert MOVs to MXF for use in Vegas.

Dear Jack,

We have not yet written a MXF to MXF sticher, sorry.

I assume that you are aware that one can select a group of files, then drop them into the timeline and they will be placed end to end.

And then you can group these together in Sony Vegas.

But, at least in earlier versions of Vegas, they still are individual files.

I realize that, still, I'm not sure about the file borders and it's effect on audio and possibly video.

Can anyone give me reassurance that 2 nano files placed end to end will not have audio issues at the file border in Sony Vegas?

This is of great interest to me. Does this mean CD have a converter to go from MXF to MOV for PC? I can't see it on your site.

I started another thread about Nano files in premiere CS5 crashing due to a memory leak, perhaps converting to MOV would solve this problem.
