Shooting/Editing RAW High Frame Rates?

I was just fiddling today and tried to do some importing of some 240 frames per second 2K Slog2 Sony FS700 RAW. I follow Convergent's workflow of setting clips to 0.0.1. I was using a borrowed new quad core Mac desktop cylinder at 16gig of ram and the lower end dual video cards, all stock configuration.

It was really slow and after all the clips of each shot were important, the still images had to be merged. Does anyone really shoot and edit the high frame rate clips in 2K RAW via importing the files directly to OSX?

It seems like the camera file sizes are leapfrogging way ahead of the computers themselves.I know the 4K to HD Pro Res option is popular, but I am concerned with future-proofing, as 5 years from now, HD ProRes instead of 4K RAW footage might be like what my 1080i HDV compression old cam footage is- obsolete.

I use Resolve (Lite is free) to convert to ProRes then edit in FCPX. It works really well and is fast even on an iMac and can play real time in a MBP as well (max out the RAM).

If space is a problem then just do a rough grade in Resolve and only keep the ProRes. This saves a lot of space and the quality is still very good.

I saw your similar posting on Facebook FS700 user group and in dvx user forum as well. As you seem to insist obstinately to work with 7Q DNG natively in FCPX I'd really be interested in knowing where you found this "Convergent's workflow"

Do you have to work at being uncivil, rude and an apparent stalker, or is it a natural gift you have?

And I could have sworn dvinfo was a real names forum, not the common alternate spelling of a city in France and its popular film festival

Thanks Olaf, your Resolve workflow seems to be the consensus.
