Steadicam
 

Well, I called nNovia, (who is being acquiered by DATA VIDEO btw, and they didn't know the steadicam well enough to give me an opinion. Trying to figure out how to mount this on my steadicam without throwing my balance in to a black hole.

I'd be happy to help Steven, but there's just a few things missing from your post; what kind of camera you are flying, what kind of Steadicam, any other accessories onboard; y'know, those subtle little things!

That's what I get for posting without my full 10 cups of coffee. I have a pilot with an A/B setup, I fly a Sony V1u, and have a frezzi minifill on top. The light on top already adds to the top balance. So what atleast I was thinking was; modding a mount for the hard disk to mount above my A/B batter, run the 1EEE cable up the middle of the tube to the camera. The unit weighs a pound, but I would think I'm still in the weight limit.

A few options:

The simplest and most expensive:

Mount your drive in-between the battery and the sled; done.

This would, I'm guessing, make your rig somewhat bottom heavy, especially back heavy.

Another option is to mount the drive behind the camera which would require having an intermediate plate made up that would allow you to mount both camera and recorder. This will keep the weight low and you will gain some inertia from the length of the rig. Stacking the camera, recorder and light wouldn't be good. Since that camera is relatively light (don't know how much your Frezzi weighs), it seems like it would be better to keep the mass up top.
