Glowing/steaming/mist emitting eyes AE CS3

Hard to explain what I mean exactly...but think comic books when characters like Spawn or Cable(xmen) have eyes that glow as well as emit like a colored luminescent mist/smoke that wisps upwards (or is left behind until it vanished when the character moves). With that all attempted to be explained...any suggestions on how to do this with AE CS3 on live actors? I don't have CS3 yet, but will come editing time. Thanks!

I have no clue how to do it, but an image to help explain what Nathan wants:

I love the Spawn comics :)

If you can use 3D Moddeling software you could create an "eye" shaped object and use it a light emitter then set up some volumetric light effects and somehow key that onto your footage in AE7. Not sure if it's a long way round but that's probably where I'd start.

I use 3DS Max and Maya 7.0 btw.

I wil only have AE CS3 and other CS3 studio software to work with. I want it to look something like this, it was done with photoshops screen layer and lots of smudging, so I need to find an emitter or something that I can control in AE to make it an animatable thing. Hopefully won't look as fake either

I ran across 3d Fog (downloaded the CS3 demo) but can`t seem to make it do anything....any ideaS?

Try and get hold of particle illusion 3.

It's not expensive and would do what you need i think.

I think particles are the way to go.

However, depending on what you do, enough layers and blending modes, with something generated in photoshop might work. You could use the liquify filter (in AE, not PS) to make it move as well. (Warning-- long render times on liquify often.)

Are there any smoke generators out there? I know Boris used to have fire and smoke, then it came with 6.5 as BCC folders , what about 7? I only downloaded the demo so I don't get everything from the CD. Seems its more of a smoke effect with added glow and transparency that I`m aiming for. Thanks guys

Yes, Particle Illusion 3, try it out.

Particles combined with color correction and displacement mapping. AE CS3 should be more than enough.

Particular might be able to do it too. Think it's by trapcode.
