After Effects Spinning Coin Problem

1 Attachment(s)
Has anyone ever tried to make a 2d image of a coin spin in After Effects and make it look 3d?

I am trying to make a Production Logo, one of those short clips at the beginning of a film. I want it to be a closeup of the reflection of the coin and then pan up to reveal the actual coin. Then it will dolly out and we'll see ten coins spinning and the coins flash into the letters of the Production Company.

Is this possible with After Effects, or am I in way over my head?

Hey mate, If I where doing this I would use Lightwave or a 3D application.
The thing with AE is you cant get real reflection, it has to be faked. In a 3D program you could do this in like 10 minutes in AE there would be hrs of fiddling with the coin and reflection. I suggest 3D.

I have to agree with Blake. A proper 3D app is what is needed here. Try 3DS Max or Blender. It may seem confusing at first but you will appreciate it after a few tries.

Two 3d products that can do this... one is Zakwerks Pro Animator and
Boris graffiti....

you can check out both products here...

If you want to see them in action go to the parent company web site
and look at the tutorials...

I find the Pro Animator the esiest to work with....
