How to create 3D logo?
 

Hi All,

I have a company logo and I need to make it into 3D in Vegas. Is it possible?
I also have Ulead cool 3D can I do it with cool 3D? If so how?

Please let me know.

Can't speak to Vegas since I don't use it, but Cool 3D will do nothing but make you nuts. I tried doing precisely what you want to try years ago and I'm still recovering. (grin)

I did my current logo in After Effects. Compared to AE, Cool 3D is like working with stone knives and bear skins.

don't know cool 3d but I'm sure it will allow you to extrude your flat artwork.

Basically if your logo is in vector format and straightforward (ie standard text) you import into a 3d package, look for the tool that 'extrudes' or basically pulls out the vector points in Z space to a depth that you determine - then most will have fillet and cap options on the extrude which will allow you have chiseled edges of which the thickness is determined by numbers you define

again - this is assuming your logo is an easy translation in 3d space. If it has, for example, a circle in it you may want to create that part of the logo from 3d primitives such as a sphere and extrude the other parts that just need thickness

then you'd animate how you wanted it to move etc and import the alpha channeled artwork into something like AE - or straight to vegas I imagine

cool 3d allows you to make a 3D logo from any b&w picture.
it does not allow for complex shape (just flat extrusion) but is ok for most work.

Works great at extruding and animating any 2D vector art. You do need the original document as an Illustrator file to begin with, but once you get the hang of it you can turn things 3D quickly. I use it as a plug-in in After Effects.

Cool 3d Production Studio ($130 new/$80 upgrade) has a lathe tool that comes in pretty handy for creating custom objects. Also it can import 2d emf and illustrator documents. It's okay for something quick, but if you're looking for accuracy then you might as well forget it.
