Ray Harryhausen, a true pioneer in VFX

A true pioneer in the VFX biz passed away. R.I.P. Ray Harryhausen.

When I saw the news, I mentioned it around the shop where I was working yesterday. A lot of the younger people said "Who?" But most of them had seen at least one of his movies that I rattled off the top of my head.

It's a shame and he will be missed. Every time TCM runs Jason & The Argonauts or one of the Sinbad movies, it makes me feel like a kid again. I was spellbound by his stop-motion work!

The effects may look a bit dated by today's standards but at the time his work was pure magic to the young viewer who could generally tell if somebody was running around in monster costume.
