Parallax Slow Motion effect
 

Hello everybody,

I'm curious how you accomplish the effect seen in 30" to 53" in this video. A kind of slow motion parallax and also like a sideways dolly move.
Anybody know?

I wouldn't think this is done in post. Easy to get a shot like this in camera.


Looks like it was done with a high frame rate cam, on a slider/dolly and simply moved really quickly while shooting high frame rates. FS700 mounted securely on a long dolly/slider would get this shot no problem.

This might be a "bullet time" effect. Or it might just be a high speed camera on a dolly.

I thought they took high speed photos (many per second with high shutter spead), put them in After Effects and separated the different depth layers and had these layers move independently to increase parallax.

Entirely possible.

However, given that this was shot outside, during the daytime, and there is nothing in the slow mo shot to tell me otherwise, Im pretty sure they skipped the headache of rotoing that from greenscreen and simply used a medium/medium-telephoto (something like a 50mm or 85mm) with high frame rate and very fast dolly/slider movement.

I very often use a jib with medium length lenses and the longer your telephoto, the more exaggerated the parallax effect you get natively in camera. Turning up the frame rates and whipping my crane hard allows me to get "normal" speed camera movements while the BG appears slow. Same principle applies to a slider.

Wow that video was impressive! Yeah I think it could have been a high FPS camera on a dolly. Have to try it out to know if that works.
