Enhancing cloth fluttering effect

I am trying to create a particular special effect and would like some input from anyone who might have ideas on how I can accomplish it.

I am going to have an actor who is in a black jumpsuit that has long wispy pieces of black cloth hanging off of them. I will have wind blowing the pieces of cloth around.

I want to take this footage and modify it to create an enhanced "wispy" effect. Something like the black riders in LOTR during a sequence when the ring is being worn. Distorted and flowing.

Thanks for you help.

a little slow mo will do that.

I was thinking more in the line of distorting the object. I want to make it almost non-human like.

FYI, Cole your link no worky.

Our server is getting moved currently, try again tomorrow or so...sorry, there is a bunch of good information on there (you could try google's cache feature :) )

i don't have any reference from lord of the rings, but the capes you're referring to were most probably done entirely in 3d with cloth simulation.

barring 3d work, cole's suggestion sounds good to me. shooting a cape with a fan blowing on it, slowing it down, and compositing behing your character would definitely generate a surreal feel.

i would be wary of using any 2d plugiins like ripple, or something similar, for this. it will definitely LOOK like a 2d plugin.
