24p in Canon’s consumer camcorders have become so popular that Panasonic was forced to implement it in these camcorders but it would have been nice if they offered 30p as well for people who prefer smoother motion.

They look nice, but no mic input :(

I think one of these camcorders is exactly what I am looking for when I Plan to road bike for two weeks this summer.

No mic input. That's not good. Plus 1/6 inch sensors for 1920x1080, I thought it was bad enough with 1/5 inch. IMHO, I think these cameras are moving further away from any professional use and more for HD home movies.

Cheers.

There is a mic input on the SD9 and HS9. There is also HDMI out, but it is behind the battery. You need to run a power cord when using HDMI.

The mic input is on the left side of the camera (operator's perspective) at the lower, back corner.

thanks for info on the mic inputs.

What is the resolution on the SD9 and HS9? and Frame Rate?
full 1080 recorded at 24p and/or 30p and/or 60p?
What is exported/played via HDMI?

Did Panasonic mention any new info on the AVCHD shoulder camcorder?

Thanks

Looking at the specs on Panasonic's site it unfortunately does not look like there is a mic input.

I believe that it is 24p only at 1080p. I believe that the HDMI output is also 1080p24, but I'm not 100% sure. They might have a 3:2 pulldown option with 1080i60 out.

In any case, in theory it should be capturable with a 4-drive RAID 0 and an HDMI input card.

I'm almost certain that 1080p30, 1080i60 and 1080p60 are not supported.

1080p24 is encoded to AVCHD with 5-channel (5.1?) audio at 17 mbps. There are lower bitrates as well, but I assume that these have lower resolution, such as 720p or 480.

Sorry, I didn't ask.

Keep in mind that I don't represent Pana (most certainly not!), so I could be wrong about the specs. But these cams look like the best solutions for the prosumer who wants a small camera, or who has a small budget.

I'm convinced that the SD9 has better operational features than the HV20/30. Both have HDMI out, so it's possible to bypass the compression with a RAID. My only concern is the light sensitivity of the small sensors. All things being equal the noise would be 4x that of the HVX200, and could be worse if bits are truncated during processing. Then again, it's less than 1/4 the price...
