The best $3000 home theater toy EVER!

C'mon.... you know you NEED it.

I was all fired up to comment about how incredibly stupid this thing is, but you know what? It's pretty freaking cool. I mean sure, it's pointless and would get old after about 10 uses, but comeonnn (spoken with the Peter Griffen voice). It's a freakin remote controlled R2.

I personally prefer the webcam that you can control through the internet. How long till some hackers figure out how to control yours and roam through your house looking at your stuff?

My question is, what's the market for this thing? I bet they sell 100 tops.

Setup a Secure Tunnel or VPN into your house and then only allow "local" control to the camera. Will be a long time before a hacker gets in to control it :) Both devices are very cool though :)

It'd probably be worth it, but only if it played 'the' original theme song as it roamed the house.

I'm afraid you're dead wrong! There's a huge Star Wars fan community out there, some people spend a fortune on memorabilia; I've seen a show (don't remember for sure, might have been on Dr. Phil) where the guy spent ALL of his money on this stuff, to the point where the wife was about to divorce. There are SW fan festivals where huge crowds gather all dressed up in SW characters, wawing laser swords, etc.

A quick search on eBay brings up over 30,000 Star Wars items, so yes, there certainly is an important market for R2!

Now if only "he" would bring coffee to the bed, and wash dishes... I might have a chance to convince my wife...

hehe... geeks. *ducks*

That reminds me of reading a comment from a poster saying that they wouldn’t trust Sony with the rumored AIBO thinking that an executive would be looking for an X-BOX 360 to tilt over.

Here's a thread I posted taking about that dog.

They should have at least put in component and HDMI inputs.

Star Wars Fan or Not

If you have money to burn, that's a cool toy!
I mean the guest come around, oh we'll just watch some home video's of the kids growing up.
And R2D2 rolls out, actually just for a laugh, even though I don't smoke, it should have a cigarette lighter come out on R2's utility arm thingy he uses in the movie to zap things, and heck maybe even a built in smoke machine and then it'll be the ultimate party/DJ tool. lol

Sorry getting carried away here, but yes it's cool

Wow, that really struck my kid bone. :)

Travis Cossel May 12th, 2008 05:15 PM

I also was prepared to scoff ... but that was pretty cool.

I'm a geek!

I'd love to have one that combines a projector and a video camera in one full-size (960 mm tall) unit.
Looks like I'd better start building.

Paula DiSante May 24th, 2008 08:55 AM

This rules! But I'm spending my $3K on a Red Scarlet.
