So it's not a real cam, only a proto-type? Where did you get that info...oh!

Daymon Hoffman March 17th, 2004 06:57 PM

Well yes its a real cam, just in prototype stages.

Lots of threads on teh forum now.. check them out. Some nice info around now. :)

Frank Granovski March 17th, 2004 07:34 PM

If it's a proto-type/display model, it's probably made out of wood. :-))

Daymon Hoffman March 17th, 2004 07:39 PM

LOL no ithink you're mixing up conceptual models with actual workin models :P

Either that or they've got some sick ass sculpturing skills at Sony ;)

Frank Granovski March 17th, 2004 08:24 PM

It's common practice for cam makers to display dummy cams, when they're in a proto-type stage. The only way to see if it's real is to see if it floats or sinks.

OK, I know this is mindless speculation

But there's some kind of peg on either the zoom or focus ring. I wonder if it's there to act as a stop if you need to do a rack focus or zoom? What else could it be?

Ken Tanaka March 17th, 2004 09:45 PM

That "peg" is typically found on the zoom ring of camera lenses, such as the DVX100 and the XL1s' manual lenses. It's meant to serve as an aid to smooth manual zooming with minimal contact with the camera.

New camera models are indeed often paraded in wood or modeling plastic form before they're actually released. (Ex: the Panasonic DVX100 was recently shown that way at NAB.) But that's not to say the actual camera is fictitious. It will eventually be released.

Wayne Orr March 17th, 2004 09:51 PM

That "peg" is on the zoom ring, Marco. And it appears the widest setting is 4.5mm on the 12x lens, which would make it wider than the PD150/VX2K models, more in tune with the DVX100 range.

Well, I admit that I didn't see this coming. I have to go eat some crow right now.
