World's Smallest miniDV Camcorder
 

Those cameras look awesome. My friend was about to order a MicroMV camera because we couldn't find anything close to what he was looking for.

Now I got him to wait on this camera because it records to MiniDV which isn't going away anytime soon.

do we really need something that small?

I can see some situation's where this could come in very handy.

I guess the downside is you could also lose it "down" the sofa!

It is unclear whether the pic is for the MiniDV camera or for the DVD camera. The article talks about both, very strange.

The model does not appear at the Sonystyle website, at least not under MiniDV.

Seems that MicroMv is dead
 

This could very well be the sign of the demise of Sonys MicroMV-format.

Allthough all this camerashrinking are not a good thing, unless you really want shakey pictures, there is something right about Sonys idea.

If the you have the camera with you, you get pictures. If it stands on a shelf because it is too unhandy - you don't.

Canon discovered that with their Ixus-series of digital cameras. Due to their small size, they were at hand when something happened. Seems Sony has caught that idea.

The Sony DVD-camcorder is truely remarkable. It looks like a portable cdplayer with a lens glued on. And it is the same size. It looks like it will record on normal size DVD's. And it will record on DVD-RW and DVD+RW. This gives a cost of < 1$ per hour video! Beat that!

Because of their small size and and unobtrusive nature, cell phones aren't allowed in locker rooms. People have a way of taking these smaller cams, and making voyeur type clips for the web. The night shot cam was pulled off the market, after it was discovered you could use it to shoot through clothes.

Pervs are happy, people's privacy is intruded.

I think that we have to get a whole new set of ethic rules for photography due to the presence of cameras in mobile phones.

In the old days where you put your camera on a tripod and put a dark cover over your head before you lit a magnesium flare, then nobody had any doubt that they were being fotopgraphed.

But a camcorder is still a camcorder even if it is a small one. And I think that 99,99 % of normal camcorder users do like they always do even if the camcorder is small. They glare at the viewscreen, signalling: "I am recording video".

Of course it is far easier to do stealth recording with a small camcorder than a 35mm Mitchell. But it has been done!

I'm not a fan of small cameras...unstable, don't take a pounding...however, I also don't leave home without a camera...EVER.
Might come in handy.
Certainly thinking of getting one.

No offense, but why does MicroMV get such a bad rap here? I had a MicroMV Sony and it did pure widescreen and was very good.

Also MicroMV has a 4:2:0 color space as opposed to 4:1:1 of DV, which is better when converting to DVD-Video.

Editing is a pain I agree, but for casual video shooting don't ignore MicroMV.
