Yeah, seems to be working for me fine so far, but now I need a bigger monitor, cause I can't fit the H.264 trailers on my display! :)

the surround sound isn't working for me (i have m-audio rev 7.1). with my dual mp2800, it's also playing very slowly, the 720p. i hope ati updates my drivers to hardware accelerate the new codec =).

Question.....

Is Quicktime 7 compatible with 6 and below? I understand it's not.

Tom Wills June 30th, 2005 05:53 PM

You can't use a Quicktime 6 key on 7, and you can't play H.264 on QT6, if that's what you mean, but everything else is compatible.

Yi Fong Yu June 30th, 2005 07:32 PM

can everyone get surround sound from quicktime7 on apple? i can't. i hope they update it soon. i'd love to hear some of the trailers in surround and see it on big screen. very kewl stuff.

Jack Zhang June 30th, 2005 10:36 PM

I don't think the trailers are even encoded in 5.1!

Yi Fong Yu July 1st, 2005 12:00 AM

that's what i thought, but i've been hearing from quicktime7 users on mac os x platform that they can hear it. they told me all of the current HD trailers like serenity, kingdom of heaven, batman begins, fantastic four are 5.1. can someone confirm?

Be aware that some NLE software is quite in tune to what versions of QT you install. Anyone know if Avid Xpress Pro or HD is happy with QT7 yet?

Previously, jumping in too quickly caused a large number of painful headaches.

I installed QT7 in order to watch one of the contest videos. Worked fine, but when I tried to use my After Effects 5.5, it put up a, "Warning that no compatable Quicktime version could be found, and therefore that function would be disabled."

Tried numerous reloads of both, but had to remove both programs and install QT 6.5, then After Effects.

Just a note of warning.

Sean,
word on the avid board is QT7 and HD don't mix. Wait on the upgrade.

Sean McHenry July 19th, 2005 10:03 AM

That's what I thought. I wonder how Premiere, After Effects, Avid and even FCP mix with the new version.

We ran into lots of issues moving ahead on QT last time.

I like to make sure folks realize that in editing, sometimes one application affects the way other work.

Like loading different NLEs with different versions of the same CoDecs. I have a wacky version of Main Concepts HD codec I can't kill from my system as one app overwrote another with a different version, that sort of thing. I think it was Vegas vs Premiere Pro that caused that mess although it may have been Encore. See what I mean.

Everyone, be cautious before upgrading.

In a couple of other threads going on in our boards, we're referencing some QT7 clips which require the Public Preview 2 version for Windows users. Marty Hudzik reports that he has encountered issues with this pre-release software and Adobe Premiere Pro. He suggests not installing QT7/PP2 on an editing machine, and it sounds to me like good advice.
