Re: Sony announces the a6300

In terms of simple, overall image quality. I'd love to see how this heavily over sampled sensor compares to the PXW-FS5. I'm very curious to see how their noise performance compares all all ISO's.

Yes, yes,...before people start screaming that the a6300 and the FS5 are TOTALLY different cameras...I fully realize this. I'm just curious about the science between both these image sensors in UHD video. (High pixel count vs. low pixel count vs over sampling and noise.)

Too expensive...
Almost double the price.
No matter what they're adding

It will go down, almost every manufacturer starts high with new models, wait a few months to see the price go down 20%.

Re: Sony announces the a6300

In another Forum here I mentioned that I was about to garb the A6000 as prices will/are dropping but now I'm wondering about the heating up issues which brings me to the a6300 and if they have addressed this issue.

Re: Sony announces the a6300

In UHD 24p, the APS-C/Super 35mm crop factor is the normal 1.5x crop factor. However, I was shocked to see that the A6300 will do a 2x sensor crop when shooting in 30p! Instead of over sampling 4k it only takes a rough 1:1 readout from the middle of the sensor in 30p.

Ouch!!...ugg. It was almost too good to be true. :-(

Also it takes the XLR hot shoe attachment, not bad, but it has NO headphone socket. That has to be a strange combination?

Yeah I know, why is this missing, they almost got this camera right for video.

The press release said "When shooting in 4K, the camera uses full pixel readout without pixel binning to collect 20 megapixels of information – approximately 2.4x(footnote 5) (6K equivalent) as many pixels as 4K UHD and then oversamples the information to produce high quality footage with exceptional detail and depth." and then footnote 5 says "1.6x in 30p setting".

There are 2 ways to read footnote 5: it could mean a crop factor, 1.5 x 1.6 = 2.4 total crop compared to full frame. But based on context, I would read footnote 5 as "1.6x oversampling in 30p setting", which implies a center portion of 13.3MP is read in 30p mode, corresponding to a 1.9x crop factor compared to full frame. This is as far as I can tell reading tea leaves from the press release, but I could be completely wrong if the press release itself is ill-written.

These camera companies need to start stating very specifically the oversampling in their specs.

Re: Sony announces the a6300

Yay! The good folks at TheCameraStoreTV confirmed that it is about 2x compared to full frame. So it is not a 1:1 readout, but 1.6 times bigger than that!

I'm sensing a lot of B-Cam work in the future of the a6300.

Re: Sony announces the a6300

I'm ordering, full readout looks impressive and rolling shutter is hopefully well controlled. In the rally car video the spokes are not deformed in any way, fingers crossed RS is greatly reduced with the faster readout.

Don't get why some feel its overpriced, compared to what? The NX1 or the GH4 are really all that's comparable, the NX1 is $500 more, huge in comparison and looks to be dead, the GH4 is way behind this in terms of photo and AF capabilities.

This has a new metal chassis, new sensor, new EVF, new AF and 4k/HFR along with full readout throughout the range - that should mean moire and aliasing free while being very sharp. Also has SLog3, Its a complete overhaul of the a6000 and its vastly more capable, and the video IQ should be much, much better. This is a real powerhouse, a mini A7rII.

Can't wait for it to ship. This will be a b-cam to the A7rII and will make a great travel camera - 4k and 24mp, schweet!

Re: Sony announces the a6300

A couple of colleagues of mine have the 6000 and are saying the 6300 needs to be way better in heat control as the 6000 stops frequently every few minutes due to overheating in HD. Time will tell us no doubt!

Re: Sony announces the a6300

No IBIS, that killed it off for me, and i hope the video quality (both 4k and 1080p) is better than the crappy 1080p that comes from the A6000.

AX53 is still a far better offering for me as a video shooter, for around the same price, just wish Sony would bring out an upgraded AX100, and drop their prices a bit.

Cheers

Re: Sony announces the a6300

So far I think it's great with AF that is much better than my NX1 or GH4. I tested the AF with my FE 70-200mm F4 and it's the best I have seen from a 4K UHD large sensor camera. The resolution looks just as good as the NX1 but with more natural colors.
