Emmy for iPod Video?
 

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, best known for handing out the Daytime Emmy Awards, is expected to announce on Tuesday that it has created an award category to recognize original video content for computers, cellphones and other hand-held devices, like the video iPod and PlayStation Portable.

This thing is really going to add a whole new aspect to video production. I picked up two of them last week, one for myself and one as a gift for my mother. I'm amazed by clarity of the video. I downloaded the "NightStalker" series to see what looked good (lighting, colors, style of shooting, etc.) and can't say enough great things about the quality of this thing.


I have already exported content from existing Final Cut Pro footage, and using the iPod setting (in FCP 5), it worked perfectly the first time.

This new innovation from Apple will be a great thing for the video production industry as a whole.

What I'll really be looking forward to is the 16:9 video iPod, you know they'll have to intro something like that next summer just to keep it fresh and keep those consumers... well... consuming.

I prefer Sony's PSP----much better screen, doesn't scratch, and I can download my video files from Vegas directly into the unit. Looks fantastic.

But in my opinion the two are not really comparables. They are also marketed completely differently.

I would think it would be safe to say that the PSP market is primarily towards boys ages 5 to 18 and men ages 18 to twenty-something's and sold as a gaming unit. I don't know from personal experience because I do not own a PSP, but I would not imagine that there are too many people who buy one that don't plan on using it as a game unit, with other features being a bonus. Please keep in mind that I used the word "primarily," as I know there will be exceptions.

The iPod is marketed towards everyone who likes the idea of portable music and now portable video. And even though the spec's may be better on a PSP, there would be countless scenario's where one would be much more likely to have the iPod with them, than a Sony PSP. The small size alone will make that happen.

By the way, I did not take a shot showing their thickness, but the RAZR is thicker than the Video iPod by about an 1/8th of an inch.

PSP's are just as cool, if not cooler, than a Video iPod, but the original iPod is already popular and now will be even more so.

I think everyone reading this should know that I did not like the original iPod, so my favorable opinions are not based on any sort of iPod loyalty.

One word of advice to anyone who may buy a new video iPod. I chose black and so far there has been one thing that I both like and dislike about that. The thing that I dislike is that the USB cord that connects to your computer and the cord that has the earpeices are both white. It looks really cheezy. But what I do like about black is that when you are watching a movie the black gives the movie more depth and allows your eyes to focus on it easier than white does. I'm sure everyone here has seen movies on the web with both black and white backgrounds, so you can use this to judge which you like better.
